Shoulder Instability
Canine shoulder stability is maintained over a vast range of motion by associated muscles, ligaments and the joint capsule. Advances in arthroscopic evaluation of shoulder disorders, have allowed arthroscopic veterinary surgeons to characterize pathology associated with shoulder instability accurately. Therapeutic options for shoulder instability include non-surgical treatment such as pain medication/rest, avoidance of activities that lead to the injury, and physical therapy. Surgical management of shoulder instability includes arthroscopic exploration/ debridement and stabilization and open surgical stabilization. |
