Poems of Remembrance
My Last Ride Author Unknown
I’ve been with my family a long time Life was good and they treated me fine But now I am sick and feeling real bad My family knows this cause they look so sad.
As I try to walk I am riddled with pain I can hardly hear and my sight is fading The time has come to say goodbye As you would want to go with dignity, so do I.
They carry me to the car; it’s my last ride I’m trying to be strong as I sit by their side Tears seem to fill my eyes Bet you didn’t know that dogs could cry
We have arrived and it will now be soon The pain will be over after we enter the room My family holds me with tear-filled eyes They say they love me, glad we had good times
In my final minutes I remember the good life I had with my family, what a wonderful life Once they are no longer in pain and think of past times I hope they give another young puppy a beautiful life like mine.
RAINBOW BRIDGE Author Unknown
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.
Wishes To Okre with love, Kristen Sharer
We wish we could have told you In words you understand We wanted you to stay with us This wasn’t what we’d planned
We wish somehow to tell you How empty we now feel A part of us went with you A part that time can’t heal
We wish we’d once more hear you In your softly, rumbling purr To hold you on our laps again And stroke your golden fur
We wish we had you back again To fill this empty space But one day we’ll be together In a far, far better place
