Fragmented Medial Coronoid

Elbow Dysplasia & Fragmented Medial Coronoid

Fragmented coronoid process (FCP) is a subset of Elbow Dysplasia (ED) that affects the elbows of large and giant breed dogs, particularly retrievers, Rottweilers, mastiffs, Burnese Mountain dogs, and German shepherd dogs. The etiopathogenesis of this condition is controversial. Fragmented coronoid process was initially believed to be a manifestation of the osteochondrosis complex; however, pathoanatomic studies suggest the problem has a multitude of underlying causes. The diagnosis and treatment of FCP usually involve arthroscopy and are combined with the treatment of ED.
