Bicipital Tendon
Bicipital tenodyovitis is a chronic tendonitis affecting the shoulder joint in mid to older aged sporting breeds. The biceps brachii muscle passes from the superior rim of the glenoid fossa, over the head of the humerus, and through a synovial sheath in the intertubercular groove. Repetitive use of this tendon results in microtrauma, inflammation, and gradual degeneration. The clinical signs are lameness and pain on shoulder manipulation. Diagnosis is based on radiography (X-ray) and arthroscopy. Treatment involves arthroscopic tendon transection. The prognosis with arthroscopic surgery is excellent. |
